Entre le Fort

Here's a couple of pages from the current scene, where the Legion arrives at Fort Mayne.  Sorry they're small, but these blog sites cap width at 400 pixels.  My solution for dusk turning to night was this feathering with stars thing.

More to come!  I'm doing kind of okay with the however-many-per-week thing... I've GOTTA be... and I'm needing to do only fifteen pages a week (roughly) instead of twenty.  Not having the slightest idea as to how long the book actually is going to BE, I'm sort of guessing, but even so...

Excellent! Everything about it is perfect. The characters, the lettering, the backgrounds. And, I am out of the loop, but just found out about the Eisner nomination -- Congratulations!

These pages look amazing Chris! I love that you "ONLY" have to do 15 pages a week (!!?!) Keep up the great work man, I can't wait to see this second Crogan's adventure!

Chris,
These are amazing! Your environments are looking awesome and I love the feathering and stores thing. Looks like something Brian Hurt would do.

Looks great! I like the new lettering, too.

So do you write the script first, and then thumb-nail as you go along?

No, I have about an eight-page plot outline in stream-of-consciousness prose (little punctuation, no quotation marks, etc) that details the first half of the book in a lot of detail, specifically so that I can use each scene to establish a certain piece of information (or multiple pieces) that will be important later. Once that setup is done, the rest is much more free-form; I've set things up to happen, so as long as they DO happen then it doesn't matter exactly how.

My dialogue I make up scene by scene, both while thumbnailing and immediately prior to it... sometimes I work out the dialogue of a scene before thumbnailing it, especially in the case of longer monologues, but it's JUST prior, in the same sitting.

I usually have an idea as to what I want a line to be, and then keep changing it, removing and adding words, trying to simultaneously remove as many words as possible while making the sentence structure increasingly complex (as suits the individual characters), so that it's not a boring read.

Hope that wasn't too long-winded an answer!

These pages rock Chris! Like Pat said, the environments are amazing!

I wanted to ask you at Heroes and totally forgot until just now, but where do you get your large prints done? Do you print them at home, or are you still going to that UPS store? I'm getting ready to go to an anime con in a few weeks, and want to offer larger prints this year.

Wow. I never would have guessed that from reading Crogan's Vengeance. It's pretty cool that you can pull that off.

Cara,
The UPS store near the school has had trouble getting its printer serviced, so until that's done the quality will hurt from the line that goes through the bottom 4/5 section.
I get mine printed at the UPS store near where I live now, on the corner of Clairemont and North Decatur Road. To print on heavy card stock is 1.50, no file opening charges, and the prints turn out better than any I've gotten before.
