Crazy Panel

This book is taking so much longer to draw than the last one.

All in all, though, it's been a really productive weekend! And if I can get ten pages a week done between now and September (when school starts back), I should be fine. That's excluding the week I'll be gone for San Diego Comic-Con and, immediately preceding that, my ten-year high school reunion. I was excited about going to my ten-year reunion when I was IN high school (thanks, Grosse Pointe Blank), so I hope it'll live up to the expectations, though likely I won't have the opportunity to beat up Benny "the Jet" Urquidez by my old locker. I doubt I can remember what hallway my old locker was on. It's weird, the more I think about it. Ten years.

That page took what, 15 min? Maybe 20...

I wish we were going to have a 10 year. I don't want to have to plan it though.

Great work on that panel Chris. I find panels like those are the most satisfying, when you go in sweating, thinking "How the hell am I going to draw this?!" and then you struggle with it and come out the other side with a great looking panel! And the next time you have to tackle a big marching crowd scene, it will be much easier. Keep up the great work!

Ten pages a week?! You must be like that Yul Brenner robot from 'Westworld." I don't think I could do ten pages a week, even if I didn't have a bunch of "paying the bills" work to do as well and a baby gumming up the works. I'm impressed.

And that's a beautiful panel...

YAY PONYS! Great Job

Im sure you know who is writing this.. the pony girl Rachel. Cara has my horse bibles of breeds and riding and everything. But let me know when a good time is after Comic Con and what not if ya still want to have a horse session.
BTW the creators of Avatar are going to be at the Con. and they are gonna have a signing and a poster just for the con.

I have a blogspot but I forgot the password.

You're quite the workhorse Chris. I hope my life is as successful, interesting, and colorful as yours when I get to be your age. I don't know that I've ever had a role model, but I strive to be as good as you are now, and to also stay as humble and down-to-earth as you remain in spite of your success.

Thank you again for all your help. We're sending our project files out to Oni Press via snail mail this week. It was truly a worthwhile and enjoyable experience meeting with you Chris.

Till Next Time

Christ, that's a lot of soldiers!

I know how you feel. There weren't any armies in NORTHWEST PASSAGE, but there were still a couple of pages in the middle act where there'd be dozens of characters on a page. That's why I eventually just killed them all off!

Anyway, looks good. Keep going!

Scott, I actually bought one of those pages off of you a few years ago, back when I was first starting to do comics. Same day I first met James, actually. It's the flashback page of the French taking the fort, and it's amazing, and it's hanging on my wall.

Although they take a while, it does spice up the book. I look at it like a Ridley Scott period piece, in that every once in a while you have to have a crazy Dore-esque shot for spectacle, if nothing else.

I'm with you. As much work as it is, sometimes you've just got to pull that camera way back and show the cast of thousands.

The project I'm working on now has two double-page splashes: one is of the Allied fleet amassing in the English channel before D-Day, the other is of the Canadian landing at Juno Beach. Pray for me.
